That Taste Great

Quality finished products that will make a wine lover happy, or at the very least, curious. I like to say, “It rocks!”

Have you tried a bottle of wine labeled organic that was surprisingly disappointing?

We’re of the belief that sustainable farming practices and organically grown grapes should be a consistently excellent combination in offering a delicious finished product.

“Organic Wine” in the United States comes with a bit of a handicap. The law states that no sulfites can be added for the words “Organic Wine” to be printed on a wine label. With no added sulfites allowed, consistency of the finished product is a high-odds gamble. The truth on sulfites includes that they have been added to wine since the time of Ancient Rome.

Consider that a single left-over yeast or microbial anything can wreck havoc upon a wine, including leading a discriminating wine taster to offer bizarre looking facial expressions.

This inconsistency has given organic a bad name in the fine wine world.

When is an organic carrot not better than a regular carrot? As long as they’re both fresh, the answer to that question is never. Organic carrots are better. With wine, we’re convinced, it should be the same.

ConsciousWine is here to champion and acknowledge producers who farm using organically grown grapes as a starting point, paired with a holistic mind set at the helm. Additionally, we ask that a combination of their farming practices and wine making style creates vital living products.

With all that in place, then they’ve got to make wines that rock. They have to taste great and offer consistency. That’s ConsciousWine’s fourth principle.

One more thing… great is a subjective word, and we all have our taste preferences. We come from 30 years in the fine wine business and longer as wine lovers and appreciators. As much as we value the practices in the vineyard, and a passion for organic (including if it means no sulfites added), what we’re after on ConsciousWine is organic grape growing paired with wine making excellence, and these wineries have got it!
