Wine ‘n Lemon - August 6th, 2010
Foods and flavors can alter one’s experience of a wine, sometimes dramatically. Last week I posted a video with fellow wine lover all-star Beverly McKenzie, who runs the wine department at Ashland, OR’s Chateaulin Restaurant. We tasted bread with goat cheese and later in the video, olives, … and noticed how it changed our experience [...]

This occurred all in one building, with the exception of several outings in and around Walla Walla, Washington. Images of wineries and vineyards visited in this video [...]

A Flavor Altering Wine Experience - July 28th, 2010
On a hot’s summer’s afternoon, on the bustling streets of downtown Ashland (home of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival), I strolled into local dining mecca Chateaulin to meet up with a favorite local wine & foodie, Beverly McKenzie. I asked her if she would do a quick video with me and off we went onto the [...]

Ciel du Cheval, s’il vous plait - July 27th, 2010
Three days of running around with 300 passionate, witty, wild and crazy wine bloggers (at the 2010 Wine Blogger’s Conference in Walla Walla, WA) with hardly an exhale …and I was cooked! Honoring a pre-conference enthusiasm that didn’t know the definition of enough, I had signed up for a post-conference excursion. In the moment, thoughts [...]

What I learned in Walla Walla - June 30th, 2010
The Wine Blogger’s Conference 2010 was a whirlwind. A delightful, delicious whirlwind of wine, people, laptops, twittering, clicking cameras, great food, networking, and more. I learned a lot, probably even more than I know, and had a ridiculously good time. I’d say the only thing that was missing was time to exhale. I say that [...]

Speed Tasting in Walla Walla - June 26th, 2010
Friday afternoon at Wine Blogger’s Conference 2010 had a dozen white wines come flying by in the form of speed tasting 101. Fingers are stretched, positioned over the keyboard, and the wines are coming fast and furious… Here’s the scoop: A winery shows up at table (7 folks at mine… 300 folks total in the [...]

Taste without waste! - June 19th, 2009
Wooldridge Creek Winery, in Southern Oregon’s Applegate Valley, is hitting a home run on the sustainability train. They’re reducing the waste of packaging bigtime. The Ashland Daily Tiding’s article, ALL THE TASTE WITHOUT THE WASTE, tells the story. Three local area restaurants (Standing Stone Brewery, Kaleidoscope Pizza, and 4 Daughters Irish Pub) are hoppin’ on the train. By the way, Wooldridge Creek passes the test on the ConsciousWine criteria.

Organic Wine & Salmon - June 5th, 2009
Salmon on the BBQ marinated with orange juice, garlic, soy sauce and pepper was a winner on its own. Kicking it up 3 notches was accomplished thanks to it’s outstanding complement. We’re talking about wine since this IS a wine blog! Domaine de Montlaville, Macon Villages (100% Chardonnay) from France’s Burgundy region was the wine of the night. Gorgeous balance and flavors, and truly great with this salmon and its marinade. Imported by Jenny & Francois Selections, whose wines have been nothing less than great finds and ConsciousWines to the core. $16.50/bottle. Jeff’s rating: 8.

Domaine Selections Rocks! - June 4th, 2009
I had some happy wines today, or should I say wines that made ME very happy. The sales representative from Domaine Selections in Southern Oregon, Beverly McKenzie, stopped by with several wines singing in the zone of the Conscious Wine practices & principles. Scores for each wine are explained in My Scoring System. The prices here are the suggested full retail, and you should expect to pay quite a bit more in restaurantland.(…)
