  • Biodynamic Wine from Cowhorn Vineyards - June 20th, 2009

I recently visited Bill Steele of Cowhorn Vineyards in Southern Oregon’s Applegate Valley (a solidly under the radar viticultural area). When one discovers how young their vines are, paired with how good their wines are, the question becomes, ‘what’s up with that’? Answer #1: Biodynamically farmed grapes made according to Demeter standards so the wine can be labelled as Biodynamic® Wine.

  • Organic Wine & Salmon - June 5th, 2009

Salmon on the BBQ marinated with orange juice, garlic, soy sauce and pepper was a winner on its own. Kicking it up 3 notches was accomplished thanks to it’s outstanding complement. We’re talking about wine since this IS a wine blog! Domaine de Montlaville, Macon Villages (100% Chardonnay) from France’s Burgundy region was the wine of the night. Gorgeous balance and flavors, and truly great with this salmon and its marinade. Imported by Jenny & Francois Selections, whose wines have been nothing less than great finds and ConsciousWines to the core. $16.50/bottle. Jeff’s rating: 8.

  • Organic Value at Ashland’s Shop’n Kart - June 1st, 2009

What would a wine blog be without words on wines? My intention will not be to fill you with descriptive words (although often I won’t be able to help myself), but to offer ideas on what’s new, a good buy, a good story, or something I haven’t thought of yet. With each review will be a score whose meaning can be found in My Scoring System.

  • Our Scoring System - June 1st, 2009

As a buyer for a large wine shop in the NY area, I needed a way to decide if the wine I was considering purchasing for the store was a good buy for the consumer I wanted to sell it to… and whether the odds were good that they would come back and buy it again.

In my early days of school 65 was a passing grade, 70 worthy of an exhale, 80 meant competent, 90 was ask the parents for something, …

With that In mind I created the following as a 10-point scoring system to evaluate wine.
