I need a massage.  I have a few rows of Merlot and Cabernet Franc in a hobby vineyard in Southern Oregon that I “manage” and coax into wine.   Each year I try to develop more skills and spend more time with the vines.  While this growing season had me Continue reading “Green Farmer” »

Thanks to Jeffrey for his enthusiasm for Biodynamic® wineries and wines.  In his October 19 blog, Jeffrey shared his experience noticing the connection between wines he was loving to drink, and their connections to Biodynamic farming.  It begs the question: Are Biodynamic Wines “better?” Continue reading “Are Biodynamic® Wines “Better”?” »

Why not buy American wine? I’m not saying anything negative about foreign wine… you know, that juice from France (who love Americans so much!) or Italy (where the wine ALWAYS tastes much better when you’re over there) or Argentina, Chili or down under… Continue reading “Buy American Wine!!!” »

I’ve spent a little bit of my guest blogging time extemporizing on certain things that I think sometimes need a little more extemporization. I realized that many people reading this wonderful website and Jeff’s blog might only partially be aware that we make wine at all in BC and that there are producers here who are fully certified organic, biodynamic and energy efficient. It’s not that difficult a place to be that way. So I thought that I’d introduce you to a few with a series of articles about some of the organic and biodynamic producers we have here in BC. Perhaps it can serve as a prelude to the Wine Blogger’s Conference to be held here in 2013.  (It’s also a subtle way to get Jeff to travel a little farther north and maybe add some of these producers to the “List”, hint hint…) Continue reading “BC’s Conscious Producers: Part 1” »

Farm to Fork Events is the amazing business of today’s scheduled guest blogger, Matthew Domingo. He is away this week, and he sent us a video to post for you. It’s a compelling interview that touched my heart. Continue reading “Farm to Fork Guest Blogger” »

I am a “back label reader”.   Members of this club are looking for one of two things: either (a) a witty description of the bottle and its contents, or (b) simply a few words that unveil the unique key to unlock not only what the liquid inside may taste like, but also how it was (or was not) made and the philosophies behind it – the name of the importer. Continue reading “Do You Know Your Importer?” »

The Wine Bloggers Conference wrapped up recently in Charlottesville, Virginia and I was very sad to not be able to attend this year’s conference. I was hoping to go and had voted for that destination as a location at the previous year’s conference. I followed friends who were there on Twitter and Facebook as best as I could. I was also following because Penticton, BC (in the Okanagan Valley) had been shortlisted to host the conference in 2012. Continue reading “Being Proud of Home” »

So, I am a self-deprecating dork and have no qualms cheering for a wine that 90% of the rest of the room peers at quizzically.  I see no reason to contain my excitement and only wish to share my joy so that maybe others, too, can gleam a glimmer of my glee.  Cabernet Franc from the Loire Valley is a perfect example, and I was doubly ecstatic that at a recent private tasting I was given the opportunity to taste a vertical flight from one of my favorite producers (and Jeff’s too!), Catherine & Pierre Breton.
