ConsciousWine and a Movie
I remember the first time I saw Star Wars and how it made me feel. The experience of being taken on a ride, included a feast for the senses. I saw this as bizarrely similar to how I approached wine. I open a bottle, pour a glass and get curious as to what I’m about to discover.
On one of my first visits to Ashland, Oregon, my timing overlapped with the Ashland Independent Film Festival. It was a combination of documentaries and features that evoked, tantalized and made you feel. I saw twenty-five films that year in just five days (yes I’m a crazy NY’er even though I live in Oregon). My favorite was The Real Dirt on Farmer John. It’s a quirky, heart felt, story of farming and life, that’s about community, doing what we love, and the journey life takes us on. Biodynamic® farming was even part of the story. The film wanted a whimsical wine to pair with it, but one with serious roots. How about… Robert Sinskey Abraxas!
Sitting at Ashland’s Noble Coffee with literary and film maestro Kevin Davidsohn, we were off on one of our rants of metaphorical chaos. After some caffeinating and chatting we landed upon a brainstorm we weren’t so fast to let go of.
My yakking wine descriptors and Kevin’s yakking movie descriptors, combined with my love of film and Kevin’s love of wine started fermenting wildly. Before our very eyes, we created, ”ConsciousWine and a Movie.” We review films, rate them on a 10-point scorecard (created when I was a wine buyer at a large retail store), talk about their qualities. Then we pair them with a red and a white wine that matches those qualities.

Each month, we’ll be adding one ConsciousWine & a Movie pairing to the website. Feel free to let us know some movies you’d like to see reviewed, or ask what wines go well with your favorite movie!
Cheers!!!
