The best oak aged Syrah I have found so far, in a superb presentation. Full bodied, flavorful, with good, velvety tannins. Elegant and complex, dominated by aromas and flavors of red fruits, violet, spices and leather. Barrique aging adds subtle and appealing vanilla notes to the silky texture. The brothers Julien make some serious wines: the whole range of Mas de Janiny wines attests to their "savoir-faire" in the winemaking area! They create single varietal wines: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and even Carignane as well as classic blends with their Famille de Janiny. This Syrah is an interesting experiment in blending Old World growing methods and low yields with New World adventurous winemaking techniques.
