Youngberg Hill
Youngberg Hill is a small, family estate grower and producer of Oregon Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. The estate and vineyard were established in 1989 and the first bottling of the Youngberg Hill label in 1996. The Baileys purchased Youngberg Hill in 2003 and overhauled the entire estate including vineyard management, winemaking, tasting room, and hospitality. We currently bottle 1500 cases annually expanding to 2500 cases in the next few years. We currently have active distribution in three states and licensing in 4 more.
Having grown up on a farm in Iowa, Wayne saw the destruction of the earth to chemicals of all kinds and the depletion of the land. He continues to see it in the events of cancer and water pollution across the land. On the other hand, he treasure the childhood growing up on the farm and the qualities it gave his life. He along with Nicolette want their three young daughters (Natasha, Jordan, and Aspen) to enjoy and grow in that similar environment. With the future in mind they wanted to create a sustainable and responsible farm. That is why they started farming organically in 2003 and continue to move toward biodynamic practices.
Having had the opportunity to live and work in France to learn grape growing and wine making from the farmers in Burgundy the Baileys learned that the best grapes come from the soil and growing practices that are in concert with Mother Earth. As a wine maker, to produce the best wines from those grapes, one must be a steward to the grapes through the winemaking process.
Having the Inn on the vineyard has been a great way to meet people from all over the world, make new friends, and to share the beauty of The Hill. It is wonderful to share our world with those who have a common interest of good wine, good food, and the wonder that is this beautiful place we call Oregon.
